Frequently Asked Questions about Hair Restoration
Where does the hair come from?
We use your own hair from the back of the head where it is usually plentiful.
How long does it take to grow?
Initially, all of the transplanted hair will fall out. Growth will begin at 3 months as stubble. It will take a full year before the final results will be visible but at 6 -7 months after surgery you will see significant growth.
What percentage of transplanted hairs will grow?
Greater than 95% of the transplanted hairs will survive and grow.
How long does it take?
That depends on how many hairs are transplanted. 1500 hairs will take between 7 and 9 hours.
What does it cost?
Four dollars per hair. Eyebrows however are $1000.00.
Does it hurt?
The procedure is done using a mild sedative and local anesthesia. This local anesthesia feels like a bee sting. Once this is in place you don’t feel anything.
Is this “plugs”?
No. The classic “plug” consisted of multiple hair follicles coming out of a large hole in the scalp. We place individual follicles through microincisions resulting in a natural appearance.
Can someone else donate hair?
No. For reasons of rejection this is not an option.
Who is not a candidate?
If you don't have adequate donor hair to give an acceptable result, you may not be a candidate. We will not consider doing transplantation surgery if it is felt the results will not meet both the patient’s and our expectations and standards.
Some scalp conditions which lead to hair loss are not appropriate for transplanting.
